Life-size animated characters tell the stark and darkly humorous tale of caring for an elderly parent. ‘You want to put her in a home; you tell her!’ hisses one brother to the other. But Mother won’t go, and their own lives unravel as she clings on.

“I went to Central St Martin’s in London for my degree. When I was there I did illustration and then 2D animation, so that’s where I made my first two-minute animation. From there I went to film school where I moved on to stop motion, and through experimenting in the first year, I started to do the life sized stop motion that I have done for this film. I was actually not that interested or aware of film until I was at least 20 years old. I was very into painting and illustration and I did a lot of mural paintings and stuff like that for hospices or schools and that’s probably why I started doing animation with large scale subjects. The storytelling came from the fact that I used to do lots of sequential illustration. I’m very interested in graphic novels and that sort of thing, I had a lot of comics as a child. They all sort of combined and now I’m very much into filmmaking.”
