Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall

March 1, 2014 by Tessie van Hintum

directed by Edgar A. Barens/

JACK SOLO YARD
In a maximum security prison, the terminally ill Jack Hall faces his final days with the assistance of hospice care provided by workers drawn from the prison population.

“Oh my God! I was actually at Irvine, California, because I was at the film festival there. That morning I put on the TV set, and I had my laptop on too. I knew they wouldn’t announce the short films on TV, but I started getting these texts from New York people sending congratulations. I didn’t see anything on the internet but I had forgotten to hit the refresh button. I did that and the list came up and my name was there. I got to tell you, I was crying. It was just emotionally overwhelming. Then I called my mom, I go, “mom, get your dress, I think we’re going to Hollywood.” I spent six or seven years completing this film. I never thought it would come this far.”

– Edgar A. Barens, director of Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall
