Gentlemen in Squalor

July 24, 2014 by Tessie van Hintum

directed by Alex Sufit/

GIS-Still-01
A cross between Bugsy Malone and Oliver Twist, the video stars Dexter Fletcher, a troupe of swing dancers and a bunch of kids running riot in vintage costume!

“It was – in glorious S16mm and this may very well be the first and last time I get to shoot on film, given it’s a medium which seems to be on its way out. It made perfect sense for this project and when you shoot on film, you really do get a different look. It still does not compare to anything else, and with this video we lovingly left every small defect, every imperfection. The video was shot by DoP Gabi Norland and we spoke at the time about whether it would be feasible. It basically went blowing a big chunk of the budget, but it was worth it and she did a beautiful job I think. We were both in S16mm heaven.”

– Alex Sufit, director of Gentlemen in Squalor
